Heritage
The founding
partners.
Halverson Reed was founded in Chicago in 1978. The contemporary firm continues a tradition that began with two partners and a small office in the Loop.
Theodore Halverson
1932 – 2019
Theodore Halverson founded the practice in 1978 after seventeen years at McKinsey & Company’s Chicago office, where he led the industrials practice. A graduate of the University of Chicago (AB Economics, 1954) and Harvard Business School (MBA, 1958), Halverson believed that mid-market companies were systematically underserved by the large consulting houses, and built the firm around senior-led engagements and operational depth.
He stepped back from active practice in 2008 and remained Chairman Emeritus of the firm until his death in 2019. He was 87.
Margaret Reed
1944 –
Margaret Reed joined the firm as its third partner in 1981, having previously been a senior associate at A.T. Kearney. A graduate of Mount Holyoke College and Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, Reed led the firm’s expansion into healthcare and consumer industries through the 1980s and 1990s, and served as Managing Partner from 1996 to 2014.
She remains an advisor to the firm and serves on the boards of two midwestern manufacturing companies. She lives in Lake Forest, Illinois.
A practice that intends to last.
The firm was reconstituted in 2016 with the deliberate intention of carrying its founding tradition into the next generation of mid-market consulting.
